Health & Human Services :
Information & Referral: Up to date information on all aspects of deafness is available via telephone, TTY, mail, or in-office services.
Advocacy: OC DEAF, since its inception, has actively and vocally advocated for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community. Over the years, the organization has interceded on behalf of individuals and groups experiencing discrimination in employment, education, and communication access. OC DEAF also serves as an advocate/liaison for social security recipients and parents planning their deaf child's education
Peer Counseling: Qualified staff provide peer counseling in all areas of daily living. Consumers receive assistance resolving housing concerns, consumer protection, educational questions, or any other social or economic concern.
Independent Living Skills: Instruction is given on such skills as money management, shopping, use of public transportation, cooking, etc.
Communication Assistance: For deaf consumers whose first language is American Sign Language, qualified staff members translate written documents into American Sign Language. Telephone interpreting is also providing to deaf and hard of hearing persons who need assistance and are unable to effectively use the California Relay Service. |
Employment Services :
Employment Assistance: OC DEAF has long recognized the barriers to full job satisfaction created by deafness. OC DEAF's most successful job placement program is coordinated with the California Employment Development Department. Interested employers are located and matched with qualified deaf and hard of hearing candidates. OC DEAF's employment program is based off site at the Santa Ana EDD office, 1000 East Santa Ana Boulevard, Suite 220, Santa Ana, California 92701. Senior Citizen Group for the Deaf :
This very active group meets at the Buena Park Senior Citizens Center on the third Friday of every month from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Located at 8150 South Knott, activities for the day-long program include lectures, lunch, games and socializing.

| Interpreter Referral Services:
OC DEAF in affiliation with LIFESIGNS, Inc., a non-profit interpreter referral service, assists deaf, hard of hearing and hearing individuals arrange for qualified interpreters. In addition, LIFESIGNS provides specialized interpreter services for medical and law enforcement emergencies. Community Services: Community Education: In an effort to foster a better understanding of deafness and to increase sensitivity towards the unique aspects of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community, OC DEAF regularly hosts workshops and other media presentations. In almost all instances, there is no fee for community education services.
FYI Workshops: Workshops provide information on a wide variety of social and educational topics. All workshops are free of charge, conducted in sign language and real time captioning and held at OC DEAF. For verification of times, dates and topics, please call OC DEAF.
